THINGS TO DO IN TURKS AND CAICOS

One thing you’ll find when visiting… there’s no shortage of things to do in Turks and Caicos!

Although Providenciales is the main tourist destination, if you have time, explore some of the other islands like Middle Caicos, Grand Turk, and Little Water Cay (Iguana Island). There are dozens of charter boats available on Providenciales for snorkeling, scuba-diving, and other adventures. And of course Turks and Caicos many wonderful restaurants you’ll enjoy, from fine dining to local island faire.

Take a look at some of the videos below for some breathtaking views of the islands as well as ideas for things to do in Turks & Caicos. And also check out our suggestions!

TAYLOR BAY BEACH

A short three minute walk from Sunset Point Oceanfront Villa lies a sugar white sand stretch of paradise, Taylor Bay Beach

Calm, shallow, and child-safe, Taylor Bay is one of Turks and Caicos’ most treasured beaches, always ranked in the TOP 5 ATTRACTIONS IN PROVIDENCIALES on Tripadvisor (as of May 2022 it's ranked #1!)

In 2022, Taylor Bay Beach won the Tripadvisor Travelers’ Choice award as the #10 beach in the entire Caribbean!

You can choose to walk by land or by sea to Taylor Bay Beach! The water is generally waist-high, depending on the tides. Just step down the ladder from Sunset Point Villa's dock and the beach is right around the corner!

BIGHT REEF

Probably the best place on the island to go snorkeling right off the beach. Good for all ages, the reef is home to a variety of colorful tropical fish and interesting coral.

And after your snorkel adventure, grab a bite or a drink right there at Somewhere Cafe & Grill. Park on the road by the Coral Gardens resort.

GRACE BAY BEACH

Consistently voted one of the TOP BEACHES IN THE WORLD by Tripadvisor and Conde Nast.

In 2020, Grace Bay Beach was once again voted The #1 Beach in the Caribbean by Tripadvisor travelers.

LITTLE WATER CAY

Also known as Iguana Island, you’ll stroll along raised boardwalks to see rare Rock Iguanas in their natural habitat.

Little Water Cay is about a 15 minute boat ride from Leeward Marina. Often, searching for sand dollars is also part of the tour. Great for kids and adults alike.

Unfortunately, these harmless animals are classified as endangered. Total trip (if visiting the island only) is about 2 – 3 hours round trip.

SAPODILLA ROCK CARVINGS

Hundreds of years ago, sailors shipwrecked on Providenciales etched their names, dates, and drawings in stones on Sapodilla Hill, located about a 4 minute drive from Sunset Point Villa. It’s just a short walk up the hill to see these historic carvings.

Be sure and bring your camera because once you’re at the top of Sapodilla Hill, you’ll also be rewarded with a stunning scenic view of the southern shores of Turks and Caicos!

To get to the Sapodilla Rock Carvings, there are no signs, so finding the trail can be an adventure in itself!

TURKS HEAD BREWERY

The island's only brewery gets a 5-star rating on Tripadvisor and is located just a 5 minute drive from Sunset Point Oceanfront Villa.

It's a fun diversion from beach activities and they do have tours of the distillery as well as a small bar for drinks and tastings.

The product line has grown over the years, not just with their selection of beers, but also with hard liquor including vodka, rum, and rye.

Turks Head Brewery is the cheapest place to buy their beer on Providenciales... which is good to know as beer is very pricey on the island, I Ain Ga Lie!

CHALK SOUND

The stunning turquoise water of Chalk Sound is something not to be missed. Grab a cocktail at Las Brisas Restaurant, then take a pontoon ride or rent a kayak!

WHERE TO EAT IN TURKS AND CAICOS

MANGO REEF

The food is consistently very good with great variety, so there should be something on the menu for everyone. It’s in the top ten of Tripadvisor readers’ favorite Providenciales restaurants. Several nights of the week they have set menus at reasonable prices. At Turtle Cove Marina.

COCO BISTRO

Romantic outside dining in a wonderful tropical setting (these grounds used to be part of the Sunshine Nursery) under coconut palms and twinkling lights.

Prices moderate to expensive, but worth it for the food and the setting. Many would say CoCo Bistro is their #1 restaurant on the island. Don’t wait until you get there, book well in advance… this is a popular place!

Also check out CoCo Bistro's more informal sister restaurant next door, CoCo Van. Delicious food served out of a very cool Airstream.

BUGALOO'S CONCH CRAWL

This is the kind of beach bar/restaurant located right on the sand that really makes you feel like you’re on vacation.

If you have time, hit Bugaloo’s one day for lunch and Da Conch Shack another day for… you guessed it… some amazing conch (a staple dish on the island).

Located off the beaten path in Five Cays, away from other restaurants or shopping, but only about a 15 minute drive from Sunset Point Oceanfront Villa.

MR. GROUPER'S

Mr. Grouper's has been around for a few years, and has become a favorite with locals and tourists alike. As the name suggests, it has some of the best fish dishes on the island

Located in a round structure as you make your way to (or away from) Grace Bay Beach, it’s just slightly off the beaten path, but well worth the extra effort.

CHINSON'S GRILL SHACK

Looking for great island cooking? Chinson's Grill Shack is the real deal. Friday and Saturday nights only, go for the barbeque dinner… jerk chicken, pork, and fish… spicy and delicious. Try the ginger beer and mannish water.

The owner and staff couldn’t be friendlier and the prices couldn’t be more reasonable. Don’t expect anything fancy, but you can expect to have fun and enjoy some of the best jerk on the island!

There's also a bakery there where you can buy fresh bread and some amazing pastries!

DA CONCH SHACK

Da Conch Shack has some of the best conch on the island (along with BUGALOO’s in Five Cays). Very informal and right on the ocean in Blue Hills, Da Conch Shack made the list in 1,000 Places To See Before You Die (Page 1111)!

Go on a night when there’s live music and dancing on the sand. Nice selection of rums at the rum bar.

TURKS KABOB

Nothing fancy, just inexpensive and great Turkish & Greek food! Not much on atmosphere and it’s not on the ocean, but the meal we had at Turks Kabob was delicious!

We recommend the Iskender Kabab, a mix of lamb and beef served over pita bread. Located on Grace Bay Rd, just off of Leeward Highway. Cash only.

SOMEWHERE CAFE AND GRILL

A relaxing beach cafe/lounge serving breakfast, lunch and dinner with a Tex-Mex Theme. From the second floor guest enjoy a 180 degree view of the crystal blue water and white sand beaches. Live entertainment, good food, and beverages in a “one of a kind” location.

Somewhere Cafe is located at the Coral Gardens Resort, right in front of one of the best snorkeling spots on the island, Bight Reef.

LAS BRISAS

Even if this popular restaurant weren’t conveniently located only a mile from Sunset Point Villa, we’d still recommend it highly for the food and setting!

On beautiful Chalk Sound in the Neptune Villas Resort, Las Brisas is a warm, relaxing restaurant for meals or cocktails. Great poolside bar, neat waterside gazebo for dining, and reasonable prices. Try the black bean soup and paella!
